Key qualifications and experience:
- Valid certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education (or state equivalent)
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Ability to adapt curriculum and instructional methods to meet diverse communication needs
- Strong collaboration skills with teachers, families, and support staff
- Proficiency with American Sign Language (ASL) and/or alternative communication systems is highly preferred
- Excellent organizational and documentation abilities
Primary responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs
- Deliver instruction using various communication modes, ensuring accessibility for all learners
- Coordinate with general education teachers to modify classroom materials and promote inclusion
- Assess student progress, maintaining ongoing communication with families and related service providers
- Serve as an advocate and resource for deaf and hard of hearing students within the school community
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff collaboration, and professional development activities as needed
