Qualifications & Experience:
- Certification or eligibility as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (state requirements may apply)
- Proven experience teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is highly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
- Ability to design and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and school staff
- Passion for helping students achieve their highest potential
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing utilizing ASL and other appropriate communication modes
- Adapt general education curriculum and methodologies to meet individual student needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff
- Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and update IEPs as needed
- Offer support and resources to classroom teachers to enhance the inclusion of students in the general education environment
- Engage families in their child’s education and communicate regularly about progress
