Job Description
A school district in Valley Center, California is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) for a full‑time, school‑based contract. This position serves K–12 students and focuses on providing specialized instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Responsibilities
- Provide direct instructional services to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and California state regulations
- Assess student communication, language, and academic needs to develop appropriate educational programming
- Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, interpreters, related service providers, and families
- Support students in developing communication, self‑advocacy, and academic skills
- Recommend accommodations, modifications, and assistive listening technologies as appropriate
- Participate in and facilitate IEP meetings while ensuring procedural compliance
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and records
- Promote an inclusive and accessible learning environment
Qualifications
- Active California Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) credential required
- Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and district clearances
- Licensing and credentialing support may be available for eligible candidates
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
Experience
- Previous experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing preferred
- School‑based experience preferred
- Experience with IEP development and implementation preferred
Skills
- Strong knowledge of Deaf education and hearing‑related accommodations
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Familiarity with assistive listening devices and communication supports
- Strong organizational and documentation abilities
- Commitment to supporting diverse student populations
Work Hours
- Monday–Friday
- 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- Approximately 37–40 hours per week
