Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching credential for Deaf / Hard of Hearing (DHH)
- Previous experience instructing students who are deaf or hard of hearing, preferably in school settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of various assistive listening devices
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Skills in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication, organization, and advocacy abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction tailored to the individual needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Use a variety of communication modalities and instructional strategies to facilitate learning
- Adapt general curriculum for accessibility and collaborate with fellow educators to ensure inclusion
- Assess student progress and maintain thorough records in compliance with IEPs and district guidelines
- Advocate for students’ needs within the school community and communicate regularly with families
- Stay current with best practices and education technology relevant to deaf and hard of hearing students
